Vera Ryklova
August 17 @ 6:00 pm – August 26 @ 5:00 pm
I is a video and sound installation that introduces the work the artist has produced
during her time at The Dean Art Studios. This new visual material consists of the artist’s performances to the camera and recordings of specific locations as well as instances of the external world’s own performance the artist witnessed. Taking her practice in a new direction, the artist experiments with this work-in-progress, presenting a temporary multi-projection piece. Intuitively stitching together raw, unscripted scenes, this installation performs a series of actions which reflect an atmosphere of realism as the artist affirms to the viewer a life that is unembellished.
I is an exploration, that allows the artist to use her recordings in a different context that
contemplates her position as the author of this project and the viewer as the reviewer of her work. With curatorial guidance from Sara Muthi, the installation will be in progress until its last minute, presenting work that exhibits acceptance of lack and indulges in an atmosphere of loss, discontentment and emptiness. This exhibition claims the gallery space as the extension of the artist’s studio. The viewer is expected to enter the artist’s headspace where her ideas reside tender and unrefined.
